AI could revolutionise digital payments in Indian rural areas

Although digital payments via the nationwide Universal Payments Interface (UPI) have soared since its launch in 2016, with about 350m users conducting transactions, and a total of more than 10bn transactions in July 2023, rural adoption has been limited due to sparse internet access and lower literacy rates.
